Wojciech Macyk is someone that bacteria should be afraid of. As a chemist and a professor at the Jagiellonian University, he explores processes that occur in the presence of light and a catalyst and finds uses for them. To date, these applications have included air, water and surface purification but what really gets him excited is the idea of photo-activated drugs and even data transmission.

Recently, he received the prestigious TEAM grant from the Foundation for Polish Science (FNP) for a project titled ‘The activation of small molecules in photocatalytic systems' so the future for him and his team of young researchers looks very bright!
