Mark Turrell

Mark Turrell is a Boston-based tech pioneer and entrepreneur whose interests and accomplishments gravitate around the fields of social good, collective intelligence and behavioural science.

Mark first made his mark on the business world when he co-founded Imaginatik 1994, which was the world's first ‘full-service innovation firm. Taking his knowledge from Imaginatik and nearly two decades of experience in the business world, Mark founded Orcasci in 2010, a ‘strategy and marketing agency specialising in designing programs that ‘spread’ products, services, ideas and behaviours’. He spent recent years at Orcasci developing the Science of Spread, combining different sciences from neuroscience to networks, complex systems to behavioural science, to understand how things spread – ideas, behaviours, and companies – and to design programs to make things spread.

Mark has two secrets to share: how things spread, and how 'spread' can be applied to world-scale social good. Without giving away the secrets of his talk, Mark will share the main concepts that give us a new lens on the world: complex systems combined with network science. To illustrate these profound yet simple concepts, he will share some case studies - extraordinary case studies - that describe how these techniques have been used by activists to develop successful programs in the most extreme of situations: Zimbabwe and Libya.
