Continuing with our 2011 TEDxKraków speaker series, our second speaker to be introduced is Andy Williams. Andy served as the director of the British Council in Poland during Poland’s transition to democracy in the early 1990s, and his work in international cultural relations has taken him from London to Gdańsk to Damascus, Bangkok and Baku.
Andy Williams’ talk at TEDxKraków will focus on the new normal forms of protest revolution – from this year’s Arab Spring to the ugly London riots, how are the technological tools of organisation and instant communication fuelling social movements, especially amongst the always connected members of Generation Y?
As a society, we have shaped tools to organise in a global world, and our tools are now shaping us. Generation Y is more connected than any generation before it; young people demand instant gratification and have high expectations, but they are also more committed to building community. How will governments, corporations, institutions like the British Council, and you, respond to this “new normal”?
(Pssst! If you haven’t already, did you know you can register for this year’s TEDxKraków here?)
