TEDxKrakówCinema - a new initiative from TEDxKraków

We’ll be getting together to watch TEDTalks and TEDx talks and sharing the TED experience with Kraków

Each time we will focus on a different topic.

Why TEDTalks?

We’d like to create a comfortable space in Kraków for creative debates about the role of technology, education, human behaviour in creating a more harmonious future, where ideas are the source of intelligent and constructive collaboration rather than conflict.

This month

For the second time, June’s TEDxKrakówCinema followed our new approach of inviting a guest
curator to choose the TED Talks and lead the discussion. This time it was Łukasz Cioch, Head
of Management Faculty at Tischner European University in Krakow who chose „Leadership” as his
theme. Drawing on his experience of working with one of Poland’s largest corporations, he took us
on a journey through different interpretations of leadership, its psychological aspects as well as some
of the character traits observed in leaders of different groups.

Of course there was no lack of TED Talks! The first was an intriguing trailer for Ridley Scott’s
Prometheus, which showed a futuristic version of TED and a very charismatic style of leadership.
Also very interesting was Simon Sinek’s talk which suggested a leadership model using Apple as an
example of where, instead of asking „What are we doing?” Steve Jobs focused on „Why are we doing
it?”. Essential viewing for any entrepreneur! However the strongest emotions were generated by
Steve Kell’s talk from TEDxBG where he argued for more play in everyday life to fight the „serious
meme” which is stifling innovation and creativity in his native Bulgaria. It seems that idea struck a
chord among Poles. What do you think? Do we have a „serious meme” in Poland? Would we gain by
including more play in our work and everyday lives?
