Like in March of this year, the theme will be food and specifically culinary festivals, like Najedzeni Fest! which took place at the end of October (www.najedzenifest.blogspot.com). We’ll discuss whether these sorts of initiatives change our communites, and what they mean for restaurants, chefs, food bloggers as well as restaurant goers. Together with Magda Wójcik, who co-founded the festival, we’ll talk about what we are looking for in food, whether it can give us a sense of belonging and community, how contemporary food culture influences and organises our lives and why these sorts of events are so popular.

The meeting will be in Polish. Entry is free.

This time, we’ll talk about what’s happening in the city.

We will look at urban initiatives – see how FabLabs and other labs work, where “hackers” and “makers” solve problems with new and old technologies while having a lot of fun doing it. We will talk about some grassroots initiatives that are taking place in Kraków such as Hackerspace Kraków or newly opened „Wytwórnia.” We’ll have a workshop focused on bringing back the culture of DIY – Do It Yourself – and together we will explore how it changes our lives, both locally and globally.

The guest for June’s TEDxKrakówCinema event will be Jacek Złydach – blogger, active member of  Hackerspace Kraków, technology coordinator of the Quantified Self Kraków initiative, and, as he proclaims himself, the”3D printing Do It Yourself evangelist.”

Please join us next Tuesday (June 4) at 19.00 at  Kino Pauza, located at ul. Floriańskiej 18. The meeting will be held in Polish. Free admission

It marks the end of the long winter period and the lenten fast and the start of spring. Here in Poland we have numerous foods that are only made and eaten at Easter, as well as the centuries-old tradition of taking a basket of symbolic foods to be blessed. So with this in mind, at the March edition of TEDxKrakowCinema we will be talking about food and how we eat..
Access to wholesome, safe, nourishing food is considered by many to be a basic human right – integral to healthy people and communities. Yet as eaters most of us are part of a complex system of farmers, food processors, wholesalers, distributors, regulators and cooks. What’s more, as city dwellers, this system is largely invisible to us, so we have to trust that all the parts are working properly to deliver to us what we need.
Yet the growing rate of ‘lifestyle diseases’ and obesity in the western world, as well as the perennial problem of hunger in the developing world suggests that despite massive industrialisation and rationalisation of how we produce our food, something’s not quite right.
So through the TED Talks we will be watching this month, we’ll have a look at where our food comes from, what it’s doing to us and what we can do in response.
